Cupping Therapy in Buffalo Grove, IL

Release deep fascial restrictions and relieve stubborn pain with traditional cupping therapy. Over 20 years of healing experience.

Ancient Healing Technique for Modern Pain Relief

When conventional massage techniques aren’t fully releasing your restrictions, cupping therapy offers a unique approach that works from the outside in. At VisitLifeTouch, we use therapeutic cupping to release fascial adhesions, improve circulation, and provide relief from stubborn pain patterns in Buffalo Grove.

Cupping creates negative pressure (suction) rather than positive pressure (pushing), allowing us to lift and separate tissue layers that have become adhered together. This approach is particularly effective for releasing scar tissue, reducing trigger points, and improving blood flow to restricted areas that don’t respond well to traditional massage alone.

Whether dealing with chronic back pain, shoulder restrictions, sports injuries, or recovering from surgery, cupping therapy provides a complementary approach that accelerates healing and restores movement.

What makes our cupping therapy different?

Hristo Tsekov brings over 20 years of experience integrating cupping with therapeutic massage techniques. Sessions combine cupping with hands-on work for comprehensive treatment tailored to your specific needs.

How Swedish Massage Helps You Feel Better

Release Fascial Adhesions

Suction lifts and separates tissue layers that have become stuck together, releasing fascial restrictions that limit movement and cause pain. This unique approach reaches adhesions that regular massage can't access.

Reduce Trigger Points

Cupping draws blood flow to trigger points, helping them release more effectively than pressure alone. The negative pressure pulls metabolic waste out of tight muscle knots, reducing pain and restoring function.

Improve Circulation

Suction dramatically increases blood flow to treated areas, delivering fresh oxygen and nutrients while removing metabolic waste. Enhanced circulation accelerates healing and reduces inflammation in injured or restricted tissues.

Accelerate Injury Recovery

Cupping speeds recovery from sports injuries, surgical scars, and old trauma by breaking up scar tissue, reducing inflammation, and improving tissue quality. Many clients see faster healing when cupping is added to their treatment plan.

Enhance Range of Motion

By releasing restrictions in fascia and muscles, cupping restores your body's natural ability to move freely. Clients often notice immediate improvements in flexibility and ease of movement after treatment.

Support Detoxification

Cupping stimulates lymphatic drainage, helping your body clear metabolic waste and inflammatory byproducts from tissues. This detoxifying effect reduces pain, swelling, and supports your natural healing processes.

What to Expect During Your Cupping Therapy Session

Your comfort and healing are our top priorities. Here’s what happens during your cupping therapy appointment at our Buffalo Grove location:

When you arrive at 150 W. Dundee Rd., Suite 203, we’ll discuss your areas of pain, restriction, or injury. We’ll explain how cupping works and what sensations to expect. Cupping leaves temporary circular marks on your skin that can last 3-7 days, so we’ll discuss any concerns about visible marks and where to place cups. We’ll assess which areas will benefit most from cupping and create a treatment plan. Some people combine cupping with massage in the same session for comprehensive treatment.

You’ll rest comfortably on a professional massage table in a private, peaceful room. We’ll apply cups to specific areas of your body where you need treatment.

Here’s how cupping therapy works:

Cup Placement: We place specialized cups (typically silicone or glass) on your skin. The suction can be created through manual pumping, heat, or by squeezing silicone cups.

Suction Effect: The negative pressure lifts your skin and underlying tissues into the cup, creating space between tissue layers and drawing blood flow to the area. You’ll feel a pulling or tugging sensation, but it should not be painful.

Stationary Cupping: Cups may stay in place for 5-15 minutes, allowing sustained release of deep restrictions and increased blood flow to specific areas.

Moving Cupping: We may also glide cups across your skin (after applying massage oil) to release larger areas of fascial restriction, similar to a reverse massage stroke.

Combination Treatment: Many sessions combine cupping with hands-on massage techniques, using each method where it’s most effective for your specific needs.

The sensation is unique but generally not painful. Most people find it relaxing once they adjust to the pulling feeling.

After cupping, you’ll have circular marks where cups were placed. These marks are not bruises, they’re the result of blood being drawn to the surface and metabolic waste being pulled from deeper tissues. Marks typically range from light pink to deep purple depending on the level of restriction and stagnation in the area. They’re painless and usually fade within 3-7 days. Drinking plenty of water after your session supports the detoxification process. You may feel immediate relief in treated areas, improved range of motion, and reduced pain. Some people feel slightly tired or experience mild muscle soreness as their body processes the treatment. Many clients notice continued improvement over the following few days as circulation remains enhanced and restrictions continue releasing.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cupping Therapy

The circular marks left by cupping are not bruises. They’re caused by blood being drawn to the surface and stagnant metabolic waste being pulled from deeper tissues. The color indicates the level of restriction or stagnation, darker marks typically appear in areas with more chronic tension or poor circulation. Colors range from light pink to deep purple. The marks are painless and typically fade within 3-7 days, though they can occasionally last up to two weeks in areas with significant restriction. Unlike bruises which are caused by trauma and tissue damage, cupping marks are a therapeutic response and part of the healing process.

Cupping should not be painful. You’ll feel a strong pulling or tugging sensation as the suction lifts your skin and tissues, which can feel unusual at first but is generally not uncomfortable. The sensation is quite different from massage pressure, it’s a pulling rather than pushing feeling. Most people find it relaxing once they adjust to the unique sensation. If suction feels too strong or uncomfortable, let us know immediately and we’ll adjust the pressure. The marks left behind are not painful, you typically won’t feel them at all after your session ends.

We practice dry cupping at VisitLifeTouch. Dry cupping uses suction only to lift tissues, improve circulation, and release restrictions. Wet cupping involves making small incisions in the skin and using suction to draw out small amounts of blood, this is a different technique practiced in some traditional medicine systems but not offered in our practice. Dry cupping is highly effective for pain relief, releasing restrictions, and improving circulation without any cutting or blood removal. It’s the modern, therapeutic approach used in most massage and sports medicine settings.

Cupping is particularly effective for chronic back pain, shoulder and neck tension, sports injuries, recovery from surgery, scar tissue restrictions, plantar fasciitis, IT band syndrome, respiratory congestion, and general muscle tightness. It works well for conditions where fascia has become adhered or restricted, areas with poor circulation, and stubborn trigger points that don’t respond fully to regular massage. Many athletes use cupping to speed recovery and maintain performance. It’s also helpful for releasing old injuries where scar tissue has formed and restricted normal movement.

For acute issues or active injuries, cupping 1-2 times per week can accelerate healing. For chronic conditions, weekly sessions initially, then transitioning to every 2-3 weeks for maintenance works well. Since cupping marks take several days to fade, we typically don’t cup the exact same spots more than once a week to allow tissues to fully process the treatment. Many people combine cupping with regular massage, alternating between sessions or using both techniques in the same appointment. Your treatment frequency depends on your condition, how your body responds, and your goals.

Cupping marks can be quite visible, especially in areas with significant restriction. If you have an event where you’ll be wearing clothing that exposes treated areas (like a wedding, photo shoot, or beach vacation), schedule your cupping session at least 7-10 days before to ensure marks have faded. We can also strategically place cups in areas that will be covered by normal clothing. Let us know about upcoming events and we’ll plan accordingly. Makeup can help cover remaining marks if needed, though they’re typically painless and only a cosmetic concern.

Avoid cupping if you have a bleeding disorder, are on blood thinners, have very fragile skin, active skin infections or wounds in treatment areas, severe eczema or psoriasis, or are in the first trimester of pregnancy. Don’t cup over varicose veins, recent fractures, or areas with blood clots. People with cancer should consult their oncologist before cupping. If you have a specific medical condition or take medications affecting bleeding or healing, check with your healthcare provider first. We’ll review your medical history before your first session to ensure cupping is safe for you.
